About Audacity
Audacity is a long-running free and open-source audio editor and recorder released under the GPLv3 and maintained by Muse Group together with an open-source community. It records from microphones and audio interfaces, imports existing files and lets you cut, join, clean up and apply effects to audio, which makes it a common first tool for podcasters, teachers and hobbyists.
On Windows it is tested on Windows 10 and 11 and offered for x86_64 and ARM64 as MSI installers or portable archives; the ARM64 build requires Windows 11 and does not yet support plugins. An optional FFmpeg library adds formats such as WMA, M4A and AC3. Audacity 4 brings a redesigned interface and workspaces.
