draw.io Official Download
About draw.io
draw.io, which has also been released under the name diagrams.net, is a long-established diagramming tool. It can be used to design flowcharts, UML diagrams, mind maps, floor plans, circuit diagrams, infographics and many other kinds of diagrams. Technology media often mention it alongside Lucidchart and Microsoft Visio as a free alternative to both. draw.io Desktop is the desktop edition: it wraps the core draw.io editor in Electron, is open source under the GPL-3.0 license, and is free for both individuals and businesses, with no need to sign in or register an account.
The desktop edition's biggest selling point is security and isolation. According to the developers, draw.io Desktop is designed to be completely isolated from the internet. Apart from checking for updates once a day, it does not connect to the network on its own initiative, diagram data is never sent elsewhere, and no usage statistics are reported. Diagram files are saved directly on your local disk, which makes the app suitable for drawing work that involves sensitive information such as internal system architecture or network topology. If required, the update check can also be switched off completely using an environment variable or a startup parameter.
The Windows version comes in several forms. The NSIS installer installs machine-wide into Program Files and requires administrator rights. The MSI package installs for the current user only and does not need administrator rights. There is also a portable ZIP that runs as soon as it is extracted, as well as a Microsoft Store version. For Windows 11 devices with ARM processors, native ARM64 builds are provided in both installer and portable form.
Versions installed through the exe download new releases in the background and complete the update when you quit or restart the app. Combined with the option to disable update checks entirely, this lets individuals stay current automatically while organizations that need tighter control can manage updates themselves. The interface is available in many languages, including Simplified Chinese, so the same tool works for teams spread across different regions.

The SHA256 comes from the GitHub Release asset digest, so you can verify the file yourself. How to verify
The link points to the app’s official release channel; appwl does not rehost or modify files.
How to install
“Windows protected your PC”
SmartScreen shows this for apps without a paid signature. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Antivirus blocks it
Open-source apps are often flagged because they aren’t commercially signed. Check the SHA256 first, then allow it in your antivirus.
Won’t start, or a DLL is missing
Usually a missing runtime. Install Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) and the .NET Desktop Runtime, then try again.
Check the file
Run this in Command Prompt and compare the result with the SHA256 listed for the cloud file:
certutil -hashfile "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\file-name" SHA256Alternatives
