About MX Player
MX Player is a local video and audio player for Android phones and tablets, first released by J2 Interactive in 2011. In a few markets such as India it later grew into a streaming service with original shows and was acquired by Amazon in 2024, but in most regions it remains the familiar offline video player.
Its strengths are decoding and subtitles. The HW+ decoder extends hardware acceleration to more videos, and multi-core software decoding helps with demanding files. It reads a long list of subtitle formats including SRT, ASS/SSA, SMI, VobSub and WebVTT, with gestures to move, resize and step through subtitle lines. Pinch-to-zoom, network streams, a kids lock, a private folder and nearby file transfer round out the feature set.

How to install
“Install unknown apps” is blocked
This is an Android security setting. Allow “Install unknown apps” only for the app you use to open the APK (such as your file manager), and turn it off again afterwards.
“There was a problem parsing the package”
The APK is usually incomplete, or your Android version is older than the app requires. Download it again and check the system requirements on this page.
It conflicts with an installed version
An APK signed differently cannot replace an app installed from an app store. Update it from the store, or back up and uninstall the old version first.
