About Git for Windows
Git for Windows is the open-source project that ports Git to Windows, maintaining a fork of Git with Windows-specific patches and packaging it in one installer. It is how most developers and IT staff get the git command on Windows.
The package includes Git BASH, a Bash emulation for running Git and common Unix commands; Git GUI, a graphical front end covering almost every command-line function with visual diff tools; Explorer shell integration to open BASH or GUI from any folder; and Git Credential Manager for secure credential storage with GitHub, Azure Repos and other hosts. It is free and maintained in the open by volunteers.
