LocalSend
About LocalSend
LocalSend for Android lets your phone exchange photos, videos, documents and text with nearby computers, tablets and phones on the same Wi-Fi network. It needs no account and no cloud server: devices running LocalSend discover each other automatically and transfer data directly over the LAN, encrypted with HTTPS and optionally protected by a PIN.
The app is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license and works with the Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS versions, so it is a practical cross-platform alternative to AirDrop. It is available from Google Play, F-Droid and as an APK. The only requirement is that both devices share the same local network.
Key features
- Send any file type to nearby devices over the LAN
- Share plain text messages between devices
- No account or sign-in required
- HTTPS-encrypted transfers with optional PIN verification
- Works fully offline without cloud servers
- Interoperates with Windows, macOS, Linux and iOS versions

How to install
“Install unknown apps” is blocked
This is an Android security setting. Allow “Install unknown apps” only for the app you use to open the APK (such as your file manager), and turn it off again afterwards.
“There was a problem parsing the package”
The APK is usually incomplete, or your Android version is older than the app requires. Download it again and check the system requirements on this page.
It conflicts with an installed version
An APK signed differently cannot replace an app installed from an app store. Update it from the store, or back up and uninstall the old version first.
