About Audacity

Audacity is a free and open-source audio editor and recorder released under the GPLv3 and maintained by Muse Group and its community. On a Mac it records from the built-in microphone or an audio interface and lets you cut, join, clean up and add effects to audio for podcasts, interviews, voice-overs or music clips.

The macOS release comes as a Universal DMG, an Apple Silicon-only ARM64 DMG and an Intel DMG. It is tested on macOS 14 and 15 and may work from macOS 10.11 onward; macOS 10.14 and earlier need the Intel build, and the ARM64-only build has no plugin support. Audacity 4 adds a redesigned interface and workspaces.
