About draw.io

draw.io, formerly also branded diagrams.net, is a long-standing diagramming tool for flowcharts, UML, mind maps, floor plans, circuit diagrams and infographics, often recommended as an alternative to Lucidchart and Visio. draw.io Desktop wraps the core editor in Electron, is open source under GPL-3.0 and is free to use without an account.

For the Mac, each release ships arm64, x64 and universal DMG builds plus ZIP archives. Updates download in the background and install on restart, and automatic checks can be turned off from the draw.io menu. The desktop app is isolated from the internet apart from a daily update check, sends no diagram data or analytics, and blocks remotely loaded JavaScript through its Content Security Policy.

Key features

  • Flowcharts, UML, mind maps, floor plans and more
  • Apple silicon, Intel and universal DMG builds
  • Offline by design, no diagram data or analytics sent
  • No account required, files stay local
  • Background updates that can be disabled
  • Multilingual interface including Chinese

In Finder → Applications, Control-click the app, choose Open, then Open again. On macOS 15 or later: System Settings → Privacy & Security, then “Open Anyway” at the bottom.
