HandBrake
About HandBrake
HandBrake is a free, open-source video transcoder maintained by volunteers under the GPL-2.0. It converts video from nearly any format into modern, widely supported codecs, with official presets that give sensible results for common devices and uses without manual tuning.
On the Mac it is distributed as a disk image that you drag into Applications. The project recommends Apple Silicon M1 or newer, or a 9th-generation Intel Core or newer, with 16 GB of memory for HD transcoding. It supports Apple VideoToolbox hardware encoders, a batch queue, previews, quality and bitrate controls, audio and subtitle handling, and a command-line interface.
