v4.4.0·System

About MonitorControl

MonitorControl is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that controls the brightness, volume and contrast of external displays and shows the native macOS OSD. You can use menu bar sliders or the keyboard, including the native Apple brightness and media keys.

It supports several protocols: DDC for external displays, Apple's native protocol for Apple and built-in screens, and gamma or shade-based software dimming. Hardware and software dimming combine seamlessly to go below a display's minimum brightness, down to full black. It can sync brightness changes from built-in or Apple displays to non-Apple monitors, control all displays with one slider, and offers custom shortcuts and many advanced settings.

Key features

  • Control external displays with native Apple keys
  • Menu bar sliders with native OSD
  • DDC, Apple native and software dimming support
  • Combined hardware and software dimming down to black
  • Sync brightness from built-in or Apple displays
  • Adjust all displays at once
