About Ice

Ice is an open-source menu bar management tool for macOS by Jordan Baird, released under the GPL-3.0 license. Its core job is hiding and showing menu bar items: it offers hidden and always-hidden sections, reveals items on hover, click or scroll, and can rehide them automatically. On MacBooks with a notch, the separate Ice Bar shows hidden items below the menu bar.

You can drag and drop individual items to rearrange them, search menu bar items, adjust spacing, and customize the menu bar with tints, shadows, borders and rounded or split shapes. Hotkeys, launch at login and automatic updates are supported. Ice requires macOS 14 or later because it relies on APIs introduced in that release.

Key features

  • Hide menu bar items with an always-hidden section
  • Reveal items on hover, click or scroll, with auto-rehide
  • Ice Bar for notched MacBooks
  • Drag-and-drop arrangement of menu bar items

  • Menu bar tint, shadow, border and custom shapes
