VSCodium
About VSCodium
VSCodium takes the source code from Microsoft's open-source vscode repository and builds it with a community default configuration, releasing binaries under the MIT license. It removes Microsoft branding, telemetry and proprietary licensing while keeping VS Code's editing, debugging, Git and terminal features.
On macOS you can install it from a .dmg on the GitHub releases page or with Homebrew using brew install --cask vscodium, with builds for Apple silicon and Intel. Extensions come from the open Open VSX registry; a few extensions licensed only for official VS Code builds will not work. Both editors can be installed side by side on the same Mac.
Key features
- Built from the open-source vscode repository
- MIT licensed, no telemetry
- Same features as VS Code
- Open VSX extension registry
- Homebrew cask install
- Apple silicon and Intel builds
