WinRAR
About WinRAR
WinRAR is a file archiver for Windows developed by Eugene Roshal, creator of the RAR format, and published by win.rar GmbH since 1995. It creates RAR and ZIP archives and unpacks many formats including 7z, tar, gzip, xz, zstandard, CAB and ISO.
It offers AES-256 encryption, multi-volume archives, self-extracting archives, checksums for integrity testing, and RAR recovery records and recovery volumes that can rebuild damaged or missing parts. WinRAR is trialware: it can be used free for 40 days, after which a license should be purchased. Localized versions, including Simplified Chinese, are available. It remains the main tool for creating RAR archives on Windows.

How to install
“Windows protected your PC”
SmartScreen shows this for apps without a paid signature. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Antivirus blocks it
Open-source apps are often flagged because they aren’t commercially signed. Check the SHA256 first, then allow it in your antivirus.
Won’t start, or a DLL is missing
Usually a missing runtime. Install Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) and the .NET Desktop Runtime, then try again.
Check the file
Run this in Command Prompt and compare the result with the SHA256 listed for the cloud file:
certutil -hashfile "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\file-name" SHA256Alternatives
