About GIMP
GIMP for Mac brings the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a free and open-source raster editor licensed under the GPL-3.0, to macOS. It covers photo retouching, color correction, cutouts, compositing and digital painting without any subscription.
The project publishes separate DMG installers for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and the download page lists macOS 11 Big Sur as the minimum. Layers, masks, selection tools, color adjustments, filters and brushes are all included, and scripts or plug-ins written in Python, Scheme and other languages can automate repetitive work. Projects are saved in the XCF format and can be exported to PNG, JPEG and other common formats.

How to install
“App is damaged and can’t be opened”
Move the app into Applications, open Terminal, run this line, then open the app again:
xattr -cr "/Applications/GIMP.app"“Developer cannot be verified”
In Finder → Applications, Control-click the app, choose Open, then Open again. On macOS 15 or later: System Settings → Privacy & Security, then “Open Anyway” at the bottom.
Apple silicon or Intel?
Apple menu → About This Mac. If the chip says Apple M, pick the Apple silicon build; Universal works on both.
Check the file
Run this in Terminal and compare the result with the SHA256 listed for the cloud file:
